THE CLASSIC CHAMONIX-ZERMAT HAUTE ROUTE
2016 DATES TBD, PRIVATE DATES IN APRIL ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE!
The original High Level Route was a summer traverse by the English Alpine Club through the French and Swiss Alps from Chamonix to Zermatt. A winter variation of the traverse was accomplished on skis - in 1911 - by a French team from Chamonix, putting the term Haute Route on the map and making it the defining term for any high alpine traverse. But when one speaks of "The Haute Route", they mean the classic traverse, perhaps with a variation or two.
